Pillar: Belief — The foundation of who we are

Optimism:

"Expecting the best possible outcome from any given situation. Being optimistic is an excellent quality, one that can positively affect our mental and physical health." (Warrior Mind Coach)

Optimism is much more than just a positive attitude. It's also a positive view of things. Our attitude has to do more with the present moment, while our worldview is attached to the present and future.

According to Dr. Elizabeth Scott, "optimism is a mental attitude characterized by hope and confidence in having a successful and positive future. Optimists are those who expect good things to happen, where pessimists instead predict unfavorable outcomes".

We have discussed that hope is the mental skill of keeping all paths open, and knowing opportunity is always just around the corner. Optimism is the sense of positivity that arises when we realize what that does for us. If all paths are open, then our possibilities are endless. If all obstacles are either removable or passable, there is never a reason to despair.

The paths of our lives are intertwined with numerous decision points every day. Every game, every day at school, every practice, even every swing, or every pitch. We can let a small failure bring us down or understand that failures do nothing to close a door. They do nothing to limit opportunities. They are nothing that can ever detach us from the knowledge that the next victory is only moments away. Optimism is the positive foundation on which our process is built.
